The "Green Team" at First Christian Church

We are going “green”. Recognizing that Christians have a special responsibility as stewards of God’s Creation, First Christian Church of Richmond is holding itself accountable. The Church should lead the charge in restoring the environment. We no longer want to perpetuate the abuse to the Earth. For too long, the church has been a symbol of environmental mismanagement. Our building should speak of God, not energy inefficiency and over consumption. We know that the changes we are seeking will not come overnight. But we are an earnest group with a creative spirit. Already, we have switched to “Fair trade” coffees, knowing that these coffees are responsible to both the worker and the field. We seek to widen our recycling programs, implement the use of paper products, and are planning to break ground on a community garden soon. Even as we enter into the beginnings of a capital campaign to meet the growing needs of our congregation, we do so with Creation in mind. We hope to incorporate many new “green” features into its design.
