I am excited to be part of such a wonderful and caring community of faith with a rich history in Madison County. My wife, Loraine, and I, along with our two children, Emily and Max, are blessed to make First Christian Church our church home. Prior to coming to FCC I served two congregations in Indiana and one in Florida. I have a Master of Social Work and previously worked as a therapist and hospital social worker. I graduated from Christian Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity. When not serving the church I can be found working around my house, fishing, golfing or watching my son play lacrosse.
Associate Minister for Children and Youth
I am so excited to be here, amongst such a loving, compassionate congregation with a passion caring for one another and our community. While I am originally from Evansville, IN, I went to Transylvania University for much of my undergraduate degree. I am a 2015 graduate of Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, IN. During my four years of seminary I also served a local congregation working with children and youth. In my free time, I love to read, spend time with friends, and be active in my community.
I am thrilled to have been called to First Christian and am eager about the work we will do together.
Dr. Richard Waters
Chancel Choir Director
It is my privilege to be part of the longstanding tradition of excellence in choral singing at First Christian Church. I have been Director of Choral Activities and Professor of Music at Eastern Kentucky University since 2011, and joined the staff at FCC in 2015. I have previously served Catholic, Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian, and United Church of Christ congregations in Connecticut, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Virginia. My first church music experience was as a treble in the All Saints Choir of Men and Boys in Richmond, Virginia. I have degrees in music education and choral conducting from James Madison University, the Hartt School of Music, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I live in Lexington with my wife, Cindy, and our four children.
I serve as office manager and came on staff in 2009. As a member of FCC since childhood, I count myself very fortunate to be involved with a congregation that I dearly love. My connections through the years with children and youth, the Disciples Women’s Ministry, and as deacon and elder have enhanced my position in the office. Much of my free time is spent with my daughters’ families, playing with my two beautiful grandsons and traveling with friends.
I am a Richmond native and graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance. My sister was the first organ student at EKU and I followed right behind her. In my early performing career I toured the country as a pianist/entertainer and was involved in over 47 union musicals/plays. I love to play for all the various programs in the church. I love a good story or movie and have always been astonished at the therapeutic power of music! I am proud and grateful to have been the organist and pianist for FCC since 2005.
I was born and raised in Richmond and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration and a certificate in Paralegal Science. I work full time as a paralegal at Erdmann & Stumbo Law Firm and enjoy spending my free time with family, friends and my beagle, Wally.
