FCC Youth Program

FCC Youth Program

First Christian, Richmond has long been known for its engaging and faith-building youth programs. There are many opportunities for youth to engage in Worship, Fellowship, and Fun!

Youth fall into one of two categories, Chi Rho or CYF. Chi Rho is traditionally for students in 6th-8th grade, and CYF is for those who are in high school.

CAMP

One of the most vibrant communities for Disciples is our Church Camp ministry. Youth from First Christian attend Camp Wakon’Da’Ho in Yosemite, Kentucky. There are camps for children, families, adult retreats, and various offerings for youth each summer. Camp provides opportunities for youth to grow in their faith, forge life-long friendships from across the state, and enjoy the fun and games that camp also provides. Campers stay in cabins and dine together, praying and worshiping together in Vespers and closing each evening under the stars, singing church camp songs around the campfire. Registration forms and upcoming camp events, including information on the two Work Weekends (campers can volunteer to help winterize camp in the fall and set up for the upcoming season in the spring), are available on the Camp website as well as our facebook group.

YOUTH OUTREACH

The youth program at FCC supports several local and historically national programs. Through volunteer opportunities, community service, mission trips, and fundraising, our youth program guides teens to develop empathy and compassion for others. A few of the programs our youth participate in-

  • Thanksgiving Dessert Auction- This yearly event features the ‘cream of the crop’ in tasty treats made by the congregations best chefs, and some wonderful desserts that our own youth whip up in the kitchen as well. These desserts are auctioned off to the highest bidders amid a jovial and engaging evening, typically the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Proceeds from this event go to purchase clothing, food, and gifts for our Project Christmas/Angel Tree program.
  • Backpack Program- Our youth volunteer once a month to help pack bags of food and drinks for children in our community that may experience hunger at home during the weekend. The program, organized by another group and distributed through our local school system, aims to reduce hunger for school-aged children when they are not able to have meals provided at school.
  • Crop Walk- This annual charity event is an opportunity for youth and families to walk for a good cause!
  • The youth also help with setup/cleanup for our various events throughout the year, as well as volunteer to share their gifts during Vacation Bible School, the Back-to-School Bash, Halloween Hoe-Down, and the Christmas Parade

YOUTH GROUP

Youth group typically meets each week during the school year. There is a lesson, discussion, game, and shared meal. Youth also engage in various fellowship activities, such as “Lock-In” evenings, trips to local amusement venues, an annual trip to the Kentucky Horse Park for the Southern Lights, a youth retreat, and others.

YOUTH SUNDAY

Several times each year, the youth have an opportunity to engage in our worship services on a deeper level, planning and putting together a youth-led worship service for the congregation.
